Ordering Another August 17, 2010 Kim W. Day (Boise, Idaho) I'm ordering another one of these great tea kettles after using the last one daily for 5 years or more.
I run the kettle several times a day, making coffee in a French press every morning and then several individual cups of tea every day. The kettle heats quickly. Semi-clear side panels make it easy to ensure the kettle has enough water.
After all the use I've given it, I'm finally replacing it because three problems have developed. For a while the cover over the base electrodes was sticking. I unplugged it and used a plastic knife to dislodge whatever was causing the sticking. The filter screen at the pour spout finally tore from years of steaming and cooling. And now the switch has become a little unreliable, flickering off and on.
The hard plastic has never distorted as it has with other electric kettles I've owned. It's easy to clean and the bright on-off light lets me know if I remembered to turn it on, even when I'm a little groggy and bleary-eyed first thing in the morning.
For the price, I don't think you could do better.
Does the job. It worked well since it does not turn off automatically if you take off the removable piece inside. July 17, 2010 Apple (California) It does the job well. I used it for a travel overseas to boil water to sanitize it. I did not want a kettle that turns off automatically . I read on some of the review that if you take out the removable piece inside the kettle which prevents water from spilling out during the heating, it will prevents the water kettle from turning off automatically. I needed the water to boil over 5 minutes to sanitize the water at high altitude. The travel nurse at Kaiser told me to boil the water for 10 mins and I couldn't do that with a water kettle that automatically turns off by itself. I think it was a good deal. This water kettle may not work overseas due to power voltage difference, we had to get a power converter (not adapter) to make it work.
It's a good, basic kettle (assuming you follow the directions) July 11, 2010 New mommy (Virginia, USA) I was dubious about this kettle after reading the reviews saying it didn't shut off, but it was such a good deal for the price, that I figured if it didn't work I could always return it.
Well having used it for a few weeks now, I can say with certainty that it DOES work.
I think the problem other reviewers were having may have been that it states in the manual that YOU NEED TO HAVE THE FILTER ATTACHED INSIDE IN ORDER FOR AUTO SHUT-OFF TO ACCUR (mine was loose inside the kettle; I'm not sure if it was supposed to be attached when it arrived, but it was easy enough to slot it into place). I don't really know why this is the case, but I attached it and the kettle shut off after about 5 minutes.
I think this is another thing - the fact that the kettle boils for so long makes you feel initially like it will just boil forever and you have no choice but to shut it off yourself, but this is not the case. It is just a longer boil time.
So if you can read the manual, attach the filter and wait about 5 minutes for the kettle to boil, this is a great product. It's lighter and not as sturdy as other models, but for the price it's great and it does exactly what I need it to do, which is to boil water. Recommended.
Does the trick July 2, 2010 L. Annie Foerster (Cincinnati, Ohio) Not the fastest tea kettle I've ever had, but reliable.I can count on a boiling temperature to pour on my leaves and the thermal pot even keeps the remaining water hot to replenish the tea pot after the first cup is removed. An attractive counter companion.
this thing is not worth the price June 25, 2010 wawawa the water kettle is the worsth thing i've ever seen. With the same price, I could by something better and save my trip for returing it in the end.
it wabbles when you are boiling water and the kettle has really strong plastic smells. Not only the appearance is not good, it is not functioning very well either.
