I searched the Internet for about a year and a half before I bought this Bodum water boiler. Wow! Is it ever a great product! I heeded some of the other reviews advice and boiled water about 10 times in it before actually using the water, and never tasted a plastic taste. It is so lightweight and I pack my coffee, tea, splenda, etc in a zip lock bag inside it. So it's quite compact. No matter where I go, I know I can have a great cup of tea or coffee. I use the plastic one cuppers for coffee and it makes a wonderful cup. Or when I want tea, with this Bodum, I know the water will be super hot, just the way I like it. Yes, the lid is a little hard to get off. But I have it figured out. Basically I just push the switch all the way over and then pull straight up and it comes off just fine. Anyway, I love this Bodum water boiler. I just took it on a trip to Tennessee and Kentucky. And now I'm taking it to Vegas and the Grand Canyon. And in a few months, on a cruise ship. Very happy, and only wish I would have bought it sooner.

Work at at office of Bodum loyalists. Loved the kettle and its small footprint. But the connection to base melted after a years use. The heat-reinforced polypropylene plastic obviously could not withstand the 10 boils a day. hope to find a more durable kettle as replacement.

My parents had a white Bodum Mini Ibis Electric Water Kettle for years. Finally, daily usage and the hard water in Orlando, Florida, did the mini electric kettle in. My folks searched high and low locally for a replacement with negative results; my mom even called the Bodum Company Headquarters in Chicago to see if Bodum had "some in the back" that she could purchase. For a couple of months after the demise of their Mini Ibis Kettle, my mom would rue that she could not find a comparable electric kettle. After hearing her "grieve" for the past ten weeks, the light bulb in my brain went on and I searched online. I found a replacement on Amazon.com. (Hooray for Amazon!) When the kettle arrived, the folks were on Cloud Nine. (I am going to purchase two more and, hopefully, those replacements will take us through the next ten years.)
My parents are utterly satisfied and I am happy that my folks are pleased. Five stars for the kettle size and the automatic shut-off feature on the kettle which brings peace of mind to my folks (and me, too). My parents only wish Bodum had not discontinued making this line of kettle.

I returned this item because it was manufactured in China. I had called Amazon customer service before I ordered it and asked where it was made. I was told that since the item code had USA in it, that indicated it was made in the USA. I do not ingest anything that comes in contact with any product made in China. Therefore I returned the tea kettle.
Good product for the money December 19, 2009

I purchased this product to use in conjunction with my Bodum 8 cup french press and it heats exactly the right amount of water to fill that up. It has a permanently attached cord, meaning that unlike the full sized ibis you have to unplug the kettle to move it more than a few feet from the outlet. But in my case it is close enough to the sink to leave it plugged in and still fill it up. Overall it is very useful, boils water in just a couple of minutes and I have no doubts that it will last a long time. It also automatically shuts off when the water is boiling. I would reccomend this product.
