Great kettle, just shy of perfection August 21, 2010 Chad Carson (New Orleans, LA) I've owned this kettle for 3 months now and am quite satisfied. I was in search of a kettle that minimized contact between plastic and boiling water and this is the best compromise I've found between being plastic-free and being affordable.
Real world capacity: 6.75 cups
Real world boiling time (6 cups): 6 minutes 10 seconds
Pros:
-Durability. Plastic handle seems strong, well attached.
-If used properly, there is no sustained contact between boiling water and plastic.
-Nice looks! The body is mostly stainless steel except for the handle, base, and lid knob.
Cons:
-No alert sound when water boils. Just the quiet click of the switch turning off.
-There is contact between plastic and boiling water while pouring. The spout area has a plastic filter (?) the water passes over while pouring. There is also a plastic marker at the maximum fill line. Don't overfill it and contact with the plastic marker doesn't occur.
-Seems slower to boil than previous kettles I've owned
All in all, I'd happily purchase this kettle again, but the lack of a boiling alert is irritating.
Electric tea kettle - Russell Hobbs August 14, 2010 Marianne D. Pender (Keshena, WI. United States) This was bought as a gift and has been very well received. It is quick and efficient and has good lines. Recommended
great kettle May 23, 2010 E.S. (USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading and comparing loads of reviews for electric stainless steel kettles I ordered this one and haven't regretted it yet. I've had it for 2 weeks and can't say how long it will last or if it will rust (as other reviewers mentioned) but so far there are no complaints. I would have liked to have waterlevel marks inside but can do without. Not having the easy water level indicator on the outside means that there is no plastic on the inside. The only plastic inside this kettle that touches the boiling water are the filter and the filter holder and both are removable. The first two times I boiled water I poured the water on the weeds inmy driveway. When I tasted the third batch it tasted perfectly fine (and I do have very sensitive testbuds:)I previously ordered the Cool-Touch kettle from Hamilton Beach. I liked that the outside didn't get hot (but just as with pots you just touch the handle...) but it doesn't hold 8 cups or 64oz as advertised. This kettle truly holds 1.7l (1 3/4 quarts)and that's what we need for a family of 5. Another big plus is that the kettle pours great, no more spills! I would recommend this kettle.
Russell Hobbs Electric Kettle April 24, 2010 D. Jacks (Atlanta, GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a Cuisinart at another property and this is MUCH preferred. I had one years ago and this is the first time I was able to find another. You will be very pleased!
Exactly what I wanted. April 19, 2010 dW (Milwaukee, WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Hobbs electric kettle is just what I wanted - a quick, simple way to boil water for tea or other uses, particularly cooking or kitchen cleanup. This model is all stainless steel inside the water reservoir. The plastic parts (filter screen and fill level indicator) that are on the inside are up above the water when it is heating, so I'm comfortable with that level of protection from plastic touching the water. The unit had a bit of an off odor until I'd boiled and discarded three or four pots worth of water. Now it has no odor. It's quick and effective, shuts itself off after boiling and the spout doesn't drip. Perfect.
