1 out of 5 stars Danger: Does Not Always Turn Itself Off   March 27, 2010
G. Warner (Massachusetts)

I wanted an electric kettle because sometimes I start the water heating, go to do some work in the home-office and then forget about the water. I ruined a tea-kettle last year doing this and wanted something that would turn-itself off. I've had this kettle (Proctor Silex) for 7 weeks. Twice it's failed to turn itself off. I return and almost all the water is boiled out and it's still going. Fortunately I haven't forgotten it for very long yet - but this is not what I want or need. I won't even use it now unless I'm standing right there.
NOTE: I keep the kettle clean, have not submerged it in water, and the second time I checked to be sure it was firmly on the base (in contact). So this behavior of not turning off is not something I did wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised   February 10, 2010

This is the second kettle I have purchased and both have worked great. I bought this one for a 2nd house because it was bigger and "cordless". I am very pleased and would recommend it to anyone looking to heat water fast and efficiently.

3 out of 5 stars OK kettle   November 8, 2009

My kettle worked pretty well for about two years and then stopped working. Also at some point it developed a slight burning-plastic smell, which was definitely unappetizing. But it did boil water quickly, and was pretty cheap.

1 out of 5 stars Strong smell and taste of plastic   September 30, 2009

I've had this kettle for months and keep hoping that I'll be able to get rid of the plastic flavor in the water it boils, but it's hopeless. It ruins the flavor of tea, but is also probably harming anyone who drinks it.

3 out of 5 stars 2 years and it's burning up   July 18, 2009

I loved this kettle from the moment I bought it. I have another, smaller version, from the same company at work which has lasted for 5+ years. I purchased this 2 years ago and suddenly it's smelling of burned plastic, also making the water taste of burning plastic. I'm so disappointed!!
