2 out of 5 stars Leaks boiling water from bottom, dangerous, not recommended.   February 5, 2010
Thomas Mckane (Alabama)
I got one of these, even though I had read other reviews about them leaking. I figured they'd fixed the issue by now....not correct. At the bottom of the pot, where the plastic and metal come together, boiling water will leak in large enough quantities to burn you. It's NOT a good quality piece of equipment.

Other than that, it boils quickly and the design is efficient. They just need to fix the leaking issues. I contacted the Adagio and here is there response: (remember, other amazon customers have returned these for the leaking issues)

"This is the first time we've heard of this. Have you tried returning it to
Amazon? If you don't have any luck with them, let us know along with your
payment receipt/invoice from Amazon.com and your shipping information since
you did not purchase it directly from us."

Wonderful customer service huh? When they get sued someday for burning somebody badly, I wonder how this defense will work in court.

5 out of 5 stars Best Electric Kettle   February 2, 2010

I use this every day for both green tea and coffee. It works like a charm and I love it! Highly recommend.

4 out of 5 stars tea, anytime you want it!   January 25, 2010
Whimsy (pittsburgh, pa)
I've owned the UtiliTEA for 3 weeks now and I love it. I make about 2 pots a day with it.

Here's what there is to love:

1. Makes tea FAST. This is absolutely the best thing about the UtiliTEA. You want tea now? The UtiliTEA powerboils it quickly. This is the reason to get the UtiliTEA. I've quadrupled my tea intake since I started using it.
2. Great shape & look- the shape of the UtiliTEA handle provides a comfortable grip. The stainless steel exterior looks classy in the kitchen.
3. Small footprint, OFF the stove- The UtiliTEA base is small, it has a reasonably long power cable- making it easy to put just about anywhere in your kitchen. But you know where you _don't_ put it? That's right- on the stove, where you would have to constantly move it to make room for cooking dinner or clean it because it was spattered by the soup you made on the burner to its left... no more!
4. The color-coded temperature knob makes it dead simple to make green, black, & herbal teas at the approximate appropriate temperature.
5. The built-in strainer in the spout means it's easy to make loose leaf tea- and there's plenty of room inside the chamber for your leaves to unfurl, yielding their full flavor. The pot makes close to 32 oz in one shot- that's 4 cups of hot tea.
6. It does a reasonable job keeping the tea hot- I've found tea is still comfortingly warm even after 30 minutes.
7. Turns off automatically! This is a nice little benefit of moving to any electric kettle I guess- no worrying about not hearing the kettle whistle on the stove top or forgetting you put it on. The UtiliTEA turns itself off when it has finished brewing the tea.
8. Wireless carafe with effortless connection point- you just lift it off or set it back down. No futzing around.

There's definitely room for improvement though. Namely:
1. The water level window is awkwardly positioned directly under the handle. This is such a glaring usability issue that I have to believe there was some manufacturing limitation that the designers had to deal with that forced this placement. When filling the pot, it's hard to see around my hand holding onto the handle to read the water line. It really wants to be directly over the temperature knob.
2. It is somewhat difficult to clean- the top of the pot has a lip that extends inward maybe half an inch- catching bits of loose leaf tea as you try to rinse out the chamber. I really wish there was some way to unscrew the bottom or pull the top completely off for fast thorough cleaning between teas.
3. Color-coded temperature knob is not labeled with actual temperatures numbers.
4. No whistle. If you're sitting in or right outside the kitchen, you might be able to hear the pot turn off and the power switch POP up. But there's something charming and satisfying about the standard tea kettle whistle that I find myself missing with the UtiliTEA.

By far the most frustrating flaw is the difficulty in cleaning the inner chamber. But overall, it's changed the way I consume tea by just making it so fast & simple- It definitely lives up to its name so it still earns 4 stars from me.

I look forward to future iterations of the UtiliTEA.

5 out of 5 stars Cypressue   January 25, 2010
Susan Hidlebaugh (Cypress, Tx)
Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who is a chef. She did not specify a brand but was thrilled when she saw I got the one she really wanted.

It is great. Well made and designed and attractive as well. It was one of a very few with tempature control that was also a reasonable price. It heats up so quickly and is very accurate. Cleans easily. Want one for myself. You won't be disappointed if you are a tea drinker and especially if you drink a variety of different teas.

1 out of 5 stars Received USED kettle   January 23, 2010

I received this kettle in USED condition. There is still Xmas wrapping taped to the box, torn packaging, no instruction manual and fingerprints all over it. When I order something from Amazon, I expect to receive a NEW product. This is the second order in a week that I have received from Amazon in used condition. I received a book as a gift and it was covered with dirt and black marker. Since Amazon does not have any customer service to hear these concerns, I have decided to voice them here. BEWARE.
