Product Description How nice to have 5 water temperature settings to choose from! The Variable Temperature kettle by Breville allows the user to heat water to specific temperatures that achieve perfect taste profiles for the four major types of teas and French press coffee. 5 Pre-set brewing temperatures include: 175F for Green Tea; 185F for White Tea; 195F for Oolong Tea; 200F for French Press: and 212F for boiling and black tea. The European stainless steel design make it a beautiful table statement.

Breville Variable Temp Kettle September 4, 2010 JLG Looked for an item of this type for some time, and read many reviews. Finally settled on the Breville BE820XL. It arrived very promptly and works as advertised. It is very attractive and appears to be well-made. My wife loves it as it gives her quick and easy selection of temperatures for various types of teas. Her only comment is that the setting for green tea seems just a bit cool - easy to use the next higher temperature.
This is our 2nd Breville appliance (the other is the Panini press), and we are very happy with the quality and performance of both.
Love it! August 23, 2010 mindriots I received this kettle as a gift and adore it. It's incredibly fast to get to boil and works exactly as expected. Retractable cord is great, 'hold' option is great, and an added bonus for me is that when you're tipping it to get the last few drops of water out it doesn't all suddenly come sloshing out into your cup - you have to consciously tip it enough to make the last bit of water come out, which is great so it doesn't spill everywhere! The only downside is it's a little loud...but definitely not a reason not to get it!
Poor product quality, customer service, warranty service August 11, 2010 John I have owned this product less than one year and it has stopped working. I am in the process of obtaining warranty service. The Breville voice mail system appears designed to make the customer go away. Almost any number you press leads to a lengthy recorded message, not to a live rep. Having called the voice mail system multiple times, and tried various options, I finally, after a lengthy hold period, got through to a live rep.
I was informed that I can exercise the warranty but that I must purchase my own shipping materials. I suggested they ship a replacement unit to me and I would ship the broken unit back in the new unit's packaging but this is not their policy. So I must pay (in money and time) to remedy Breville's defective product quality.
To summarize: Breville product quality, customer service, and warranty service are poor.
Great but things to note...... July 28, 2010 D. Hall (Washington, DC) We love this kettle overall - you would want to for the price ;-)
Two concerns to note for potential buyers:
1/ Polycarbonate used for viewing windows on both sides and lid (BPA risk here)
2/ The base of the kettle itself (when you remove it from the stand) is HOT....... (we assumed from other brands/models that it would be insultated/cool) so you could not place it directly onto a wooden table etc.
Would probably buy again but prefer glass not polycarbonate and cool to touch base.
Breville BKE820XL July 19, 2010 William H. Osborne Jr. (Raleigh, NC, US) I was in the market for a variable temperature kettle. I was initially thinking about buying one with continuous adjustment but after reading the reviews I decided up the Breville.
I am very happy with it so far. It heats the water very quickly. I checked the water temp with a thermometer for the 185 degree setting and it was within one degree. I have been using it to pre-heat water for my Hario vacuum pot. I plan to take it to work to heat water for my AeroPress. I highly recommend it.
