Product Description The Bodum Ibis kettle boils 50-oz. of water in less than 12 minutes using a 1500 watt power heating element that warms the water directly. Energy enters the water without getting lost heating up the metal body of your kettle! With its oval shape, this handy cordless kettle is designed to have a permanent place at the kitchen counter, taking up minimal space. Made of a heat-reinforced polypropylene plastic and a stainless steel heating element, it is an indispensable and practical everyday tool for cooking. The easy-to-read water level indicator shows in ounces and liters the amount ready to boil. And it will automatically cut off power after the water boils a short while. No more dry boils! The Ibis also has a special "scale filter" which reduces the amount of calcium in your water. With this filter your tea and coffee will become even more aromatic and tasteful.

Excellent Purchase August 3, 2010 hymytytto (New London, CT United States) I love Bodum products and I just wanted a simple electric water kettle, not complicated and without a lot of extra nonsense. This is perfect. Sleek and simple. Large water capacity. If I needed another one, I would buy it again.
WARNING: A piece of junk July 14, 2010 Paul W. Guglietti (Cambridge, Mass. USA) I ordered this worthless and potentially dangerous item after having owned a couple of them in the past; those kettles are still in regular use after several years. This new one was ordered on 10/19/09, about eight months ago. It functioned well for several months before the kettle no longer engaged the base smartly enough to ensure a connection. Then the base of the kettle itself began to break part at the point where it sits over the connector on the base.
I noticed when I opened the box the kettle came in that it was made in China--outsourcing strikes again! Obviously I could not think of replacing this item with another of the same. This is a real stain on the reputation of an otherwise fine manufacturer.
I've had this kettle for about 12 years and it still works great! June 25, 2010 Janna Chin (Edina, MN United States) I just read reviews about this kettle and was surprised. I've used mine multiple times each day for at least 12 years and it's still working perfectly. The red ball faded a year or two ago and the plastic is quite firm at all times. Perhaps they changed the construction over the years, as ours still performs with absolutely no problems. It took us five years to agree on a toaster, so I figured I'd begin the kettle search for that day when we need to replace ours.
Good Water Kettle but bad design for the cord June 5, 2010 Michael Gordon (Woodland Hills, CA United States) Nice product but the design for the cord is terrible. First of all, it's an all white pot with an ugly black cord (why would they design the cord like this) but worst of all, you can't position the cord so that it will fit into all areas because it's not flexible and way too short. They need to get better designers for these products.
Bodum kettles February 21, 2010 Shopper (NY, NY) Over the years, I've purchased many products from Bodum and have been happy with it's styling and functionality. However, the previous IBIS kettle had stopped working after about 3 years, which is disappointing considering Bodum's name. I've recently purchased the new IBIS and on the first day I used it, the MIN (temperature) imprint has come off. Let's hope it doesn't stop working after a few months.
